Book 3 • The Race Is On
You don’t fight power — you become it.
The system Uma built is beginning to fracture.
A law once believed absolute is broken.
Not by enemies.
By someone who believes survival justifies everything.

Great techno-thriller! I’ve previously reviewed the first two books (Leap and Green Ray), from this series: The Race is On. The series follows the creation and rollout of a teleportation device, called LEAP, which will allow people and goods to be instantly transported across the planet. The books follow the impact and troubles that this causes. In Atom Inc we once again have Uma as the head of Green Ray fighting to end global warming with the rollout of her LEAP technology. New threats are also emerging including the death US troops, a suspected copycat of LEAP and government corruption. All of this is set against the background of the Icelandic volcano eruption in 2010.I am still loving this series. It is quite different from my normal reads as it is more sci-fi. There is a lot of thriller elements to it and I like that it is set against a real-life event that I can remember. The chapters are nice and short so once you start reading, you don’t want to stop. I intended on reading this over a couple of days, but instead stayed up much later than intended to complete it in one day. I’m now looking forward to the next in the series!Verified
an intense story that runs scarily close to a reality Action thrillers are definitely where it’s at and Atom Inc is definitely there, bringing a thrilling story that although is a work of fiction runs scarily close to a possible reality.Atom Inc is the third book in the Race is On series by OC Heaton and although I haven’t read the previous two I still felt quite comfortable jumping in here although I felt like I have missed quite a bit of the build up of “LEAP” I still felt I could build a decent understanding of what was going on.The story follows Uma as she bids to end global warming with the rollout of LEAP a transportation device that takes you anywhere you need to be instantly saving the need for all pollution causing traffic but like most new technology there is always a chance that someone wants to utilise this in more sinister ways and when an attack on a US airbase highlights a possible connection and a suspected copycat scrutinizing fingers point in LEAP’s direction.I found this book more intense than I originally thought it would be and found myself engrossed more or less straight away, the chapter sizes are relatively small meaning you can get through the book relatively quickly but it also means it’s difficult to put it down. I enjoyed OC Heaton’s writing style and although I am late to the series I felt comfortable reading the book and will definitely go back and read the rest of the series.Verified
Brilliant sci-fi thriller I absolutely enjoyed this book from start to finish. I hadn’t previously read the first two books in the series but I found it read well without knowing what came before and the other does well to give enough information to fill in what could have been plot gaps. This to me is very much a sci-fi thriller and you can expect a lot of twists in the story and at times it goes to quite dark places but this fits with the overall story and impacts how you feel about specific characters.I also liked out throughout the book even the “good guys’ are morally grey at times which highlights that technology can be abused by anyone even if it is being done for what they think are good reasons.I will be going and reading the original two books and I am very much hoping there is more to come in this story as I don’t think it’s finished yet.Verified
Fantastic and gripping 3rd Book! This is Book 3 of The Race Is On series, and Uma and Ethan are BACK with some old and new faces! We follow Uma and Ethan as they navigate the fallout from Green Ray (Book 2) and just WOW.... There is so much to unpack, I'm not sure I can give ATOM INC the full justice it deserves in this tiny caption!Once again, I love Uma. She is a strong and intelligent female lead, which is fantastic to see! She is also a survivor...As for Ethan, he is fantastic too. He a perfect match for Uma ❤I feel like this is the fastest paced book of the trio so far, and as soon as you start to read, you really are on a rollercoaster ride, which I loved! There are so many little details packed into these pages that it's unreal - including the addition of real-life events!Once again, I can't stress enough how much time and effort is evident in the research and development of this book. While Leap is just science fiction (... well for me!), the explanation for how it works sounds entirely plausible, which makes this book even more special. While this is a fun book, it does bring to light many eco issues and ethical dilemmas, and ATOM INC seems the most philosophical so far in this respect. Especially when the world is attempting to come to terms with Leap and whether the Leap Rules apply to them - if you're dead, should you remain dead? It's deep and really makes you think as you read.I think ATOM INC is my favourite so far as by now you know and love the characters and understand how the author writes.I can't wait to read more work by OC Heaton!Grab yourself a brew and your favourite snacks, settle yourself in your favourite chair, and enjoy this highly recommended book!Showing our latest reviews
